NarrativeThe moment my friend and I stepped into Narrative, we both uttered a hushed “wowwww” at the same time. This huge showroom (15,000 square feet!) is a true vintage collective created by owner Vanessa Murray. It features around 40 different vendors, including rotating pop-ups. It most definitely has a mid-century bent, and you’ll find everything from pottery to furniture, to art and decorative items. Honestly, I wasn’t prepared for it to be this fabulous. It was founded in 2016, but it just moved to this new space in the Oakland Iron Works building in April of 2024. The various vendors are meticulously edited, and one space flows seamlessly into the next. There’s so much to view and take in, that I highly recommend at least two laps around the gallery. I found the prices to be very reasonable, especially given the curated quality of the wares. On my inaugural visit, I left with FIVE pieces of framed art. Needless to say, this will become a regular haunt of mine! Oh, and they have a vintage market in the parking lot behind the store on the first Saturday of each month. Can’t wait to check that out!
